So we've all seen the new system that replaces the notional prize money but there seems to be a great deal of confusion as to what it all means and why it was implemented. I've had my head in the sand the last few weeks with other matters, including designing the new website so I don't honestly know a great deal about it.
The general consensus appears to be negative at first glance but is that caused by a flawed system or a fear of change. After a quick read up I see a number of beneficial changes, sadly I also see a number of poorly thought out problems too. For example how easy it is to get your horse jumped out of a category, this will discourage riders from jumping anything more than a very steady double clear which will diffuse the competition almost completely, but at the same time someone has to win regardless so it will then become a competition of who can go the slowest without going over the time allowed. Essentially, your average British Novice will be rather beige and the winner of the class will be rather peeved that they hadn't gone that little bit slower.
I'm going to do some more reading and see what I can figure out.
